SunFuel®: the clean solution

SunFuel®: For a better CO2 footprint

More than half the CO2 emissions based on oil are still generated by road traffic. We have responded to this challenge and worked together with our partners to develop second-generation biofuels. We have called these fuels SunFuel®. These are fuels derived entirely from biomass such as straw, scrap wood and energy crops.

The environment benefits because the CO2 generated during combustion of SunFuel® was previously taken out of the atmosphere by the plants providing the energy. This means that the CO2 footprint essentially remains stable. By contrast, combustion of conventional fossil fuels means that increasing volumes of greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere.

A biofuel from the latest generation

SunFuel® is manufactured from residual materials and waste products. In other words, fewer raw materials have to be used exclusively for fuel. SunFuel® is an umbrella term for the refined second-generation biofuels. Food products such as maize or rapeseed oil do not have to be used for fuel.

In fact, SunFuel® provides added value: It is a designer fuel that permits the chemical and physical properties to be tailored precisely to needs. This makes it perfect for use in the development of our new engines. SunFuel® not only reduces emissions and consumption, it also facilitates innovative engine concepts such as our CCS engine. This combines the benefits of low fuel consumption with diesel and the low emissions of petrol in one engine.
